Lyles, Tennessee
A waterfall retreat in the hills of Middle Tennessee
Old Falls pours twenty feet over limestone at the edge of the porch. Come for a private dinner at the water, or stay and fall asleep to it.
New at the Falls: high-speed Wi-Fi and cell service reached the hollow this year. The waterfall is unchanged.
“This is truly the most peaceful place on earth. The waterfall is beautiful to look at, and even better to listen to.”
Joe B., a guest from Wisconsin
Welcome
The Waterfall House
Locals have called this place the Waterfall House for years. It sits at the bottom of a wooded hollow in Hickman County, where the Cavender branch of Lick Creek drops over a limestone shelf and keeps going. The sound of the water is the first thing you notice. It stays with you after you leave.
People come for anniversaries, for a dinner worth remembering, for a quiet week of work. Some come for no reason at all. We hope to see you soon.
Two ways to experience the Falls
Creekside Dinners
Reserve the grounds for an evening and dine at the water's edge. A private chef cooks; the falls provide the rest. For anniversaries, gatherings, and small retreats.

Stay at the Waterfall House
The whole house, the porch, and the falls to yourselves. Fall asleep to the sound of the water and wake to coffee on the veranda. The Wi-Fi is fast enough to work from the woods.

The Falls
Old Falls, by name
Old Falls is the official name of this 20-foot-tall, 30-foot-wide waterfall, formed by natural springs on the Cavender branch of Lick Creek in eastern Hickman County. It appears in Gregory Plumb's Waterfalls of Tennessee, and in the memories of everyone who has driven past and slowed down.
Waterfront of any kind is rare in this part of the state. A named, documented waterfall a few steps from the porch is rarer still. More about Old Falls.
From our guests
In their words
“Your mouth drops open when you first arrive and then it takes about 10 minutes for it to close. It’s a unique place and hard to believe it actually exists. Had a great time creek sitting and just doing nothing. It had been a long time since I just relaxed.”
“Everything from the adventure to get there, sleeping to the sound of the water and drinking coffee in the morning on a beautiful veranda with a private waterfall. Perfect. This is a 10-star destination!”
“From the moment we arrived, we felt such an overwhelming peace come over us. I loved the uniqueness of the room and coupled with being able to sleep to the sound of the waterfall creates something so magical.”
Come see it for yourself.
Evenings at the water are held for one party at a time. Tell us what you’re planning, and we’ll help you find a date.
